I have a 850 estate 1997. the abs light comes on now on again. can any body help
Fantastic car. Loads of torque in plenty of comfort Downside includes low mpg 22-28MPG in normal driving (That's the trade-off for the performance) Heater Matrix and Air-Con are known problems. Any Air Con problems are likely to be the evaporator le... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
P-reg ex-forces auto, 197,000 miles and still going strong Likes: front tyres, suspension arms, fuel, brake systems and generally anything expensive Dislikes: well, none I can think of! Just had to have new MAF at great expense, and now the Lambda l... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Had this car for nearly 2 years. Now has 117k miles but drives like new. Very comfortable and long distances are covered easily. Auto box is excellent and probably made even better due to the cars power. Does like fuel, low 20's round town in winter,... Had this car since one year. It has now 145,000 on the clock and runs as smooth as silk. The 5 cylinder engine is a bless, if a bit thirsty. The seats are extremely comfortable. This is the perfect car for long motorway trips. The only draw backs are... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Fab car with highish miles and all the usual 850 problems (aircon & clunky back end). I just wish I'd bought it new!
My second 850 and will only trade for a V70 classic. Bought it at the auction with 77k three years ago and it has clocked 119k of town driving now as the wifes taxi. I service it myself - its dead easy and I cannot think of any faults except for a ... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Bought the car as the 4th owner since its import in 1999 and have kept it for nearly 3 years It's incredibly quick for a 2-tonne saloon, has every toy Volvo could add to a car and stands up to living outside and hard driving very well Faults? The he... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Have owned the car for 8mths now, it has covered approx. 90,000 miles, and so far I have no problems. There aren’t many estate cars that can do what a T5R can do.
I have had this car for three years now without a single problem An estate car that is kitted out with every luxury with 225bhp,a 0-60mph of 7.5 seconds, and a top speed of 150mph! I love this car to bits!
Absolute monster. It's a practical family estate car. It's a fire-breathing track prepared racing car. Its dependable and reliable - the 5 cylinder engine (they're using a detuned version in the Ford Focus ST) seems pretty much unbreakable - regularl... Bought the car with 20K on the clock. Now near 80K. Guy at the garage doing the MoT said the car was still as it left the factory! Very comfy as well Slight electrical problems occasionally especially the ABS light. Otherwise 100% reliability.
Having recently owned both a 2.0 and a 2.5 ( see other post ) I would suggest if you can to go for the 2.5 version as it offers more flexibility. Other than that all versions offer great longterm reliabilty. There are a few 'known faults' with the ... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Used regularly for the last 12 years and has never let us down. Opted out of Volvo servicing due to high cost but local garage is able to deal with all servicing as it is still a relatively simple car. 125000 miles and look to keep it for another 10 ... Great all rounder, eats motorway miles and mine has 243k still smooth as a peach. Go for the high spec, no problems with anything if given TLC.
Have had since 16k miles. Now 67k. No major problems or time off the road. Exhaust is still the original. Paint and Bodywork like new. No rust. Serviced by Volvo dealer. Expensive but fair. Reckon to spend Ł600 on servicing, replacement parts an... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
very pleased with it, reliable, good on petrol for a 2.5 comfortable and nice to drive
I've had this car since 1997 and had it serviced by the local Volvo dealership.....its now done 222000 and still going sweet. OK, bits are starting to drop off, a bit like me, but nothing important. No rust, no oil burn, reliable, fast, very comforta... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Had the car since Mar 96, cost £25000 now worth about £5750. Very comfortable. To some extent a compromise between 'sporty' and 'family' car. It does have very good acceleration and good kit level Downsides: expensive on juice, only does 7... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Auto box, No real problems with car, mpg very good for 250bhp car. Pleasure to drive fast or slow. Can be used as a family car or turbo brick Tyres wear quickly in hooligan mode so the first two front tyres lasted only 4,000 miles, but a lot of fun.
T5 model with auto box is quick and reliable. Look for TRACS traction control to limit front tyre wear. High spec even in basic model with heated seats and lots of airbags.
Bought last September 04 to replace old 240 est. Definitely the fastest motor we`ve ever owned. Very, Very comfy, loves doing motorway miles and round town shopping. Had a problem with remote locking, but sorted by a franchise dealer for Ł180. Best ke... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Bought the car last year for a reasonable price. The ABS brake pedal sensor switch gave me a problem. local scrappy had the bit for next to nothing at pennys price. Now stopping on a sixpence. Have owned this car now for 14 months, bought it sold as seen from an independent. Only thing not working on it was/is the air conditioning (has been re-gassed so suspect it is the common evaporator fault). Metalic torquise with creamy/beige leather... I have just purchased my volvo 850, it has 171k on the clock with full service history. Only two owners from new and it shows. Everything on the car works as it such and the drive is faultless. Fast, very reliable and plenty of room. Purchased five years ago at 40K Miles and now averaging 15K Miles PA. Great Car. Why buy a slow and tinny people carrier, when you can have 200+ bhp and enough room for all? Goes like stink Reasonable servicing costs when done by a specialist, but you will need new front tyres regularly. Quicker than most other things... My car is a 1994 Volvo 850 GLT estate. It's only downside is that it is not very quick, as it is the 2 litre model. I have considered going for the 2.5 or even the T5, but they use a considerable amount more fuel. I get fantastic fuel economy, so... A wonderful car with an Achilles heel. It's big - yet manoeuvrable, with an OK turning circle. Luxurious - but, with the 2-litre model, not thirsty. Safe - strengthened steel etc means you have good chances in a collision with a modern car. Reli... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
Absolutely fantastic and reliable bullet-stopping transport. Buy the 2.5 over the 2.0 and the 10v over the 20v unless both are the same price. The extra valves count for nothing unless you are driving hard but the 2.5 offers more flexibility over t... To read the FULL REVIEW, click here - Its FREE to browse, you just need to register.
850 T5 auto 2.3 turbo, fantastic car, i bought it with 165000 miles on it and only had it for a short time but it was the best car i have ever owned, powerful comfortable, not too bad on fuel, everything worked on it and it felt very secure on the ro... Lovely comfortable strong car now with 130k miles, a mix of short and long journeys ABS controller went bust at 120k, which was £1,000 job.
